7 : Dangerous Sisters
Indigo McCloud's sister Peaches is every adult's favourite child: pretty, golden-haired, polite and charming. But the children of Blunt know better: Peaches and her three sisters are a gang of bullies who will stop at nothing to get their way.
7 : Dangerous Sisters
This is the story of Indigo's battle to stop his sisters. Leaping across the rooftops of Blunt, he tries to keep one step ahead of their wicked schemes -but he has to tangle with 437 hungry geese, an avalanche of toilets, curry farts, bungling policemen, vicious eels, a pig in a witch's hat, a three legged spider with a toilet brush and a dangerous villain in odd socks ...
Fortress Press has published an interesting book written by Amy Kalmanofsky, Dangerous Sisters of the Hebrew Bible, in which she studies sisters and sisterhood in the Hebrew Bible. The title of this book called my attention to the fact that in the study of the family in ancient Israel, scholars focus their attention on the role of fathers and mothers within the family. However, the role of sisters and sisterhood in ancient Israel has not received much attention.
To understand how the Bible represents sisters and sisterhoods, I provide a close literary reading of each narrative, considering its rhetorical strategies, themes, and function within the greater biblical narrative. All translations of the biblical texts that I include are my own. I rely upon the resources of contemporary biblical scholarship to enrich my understanding of these narratives, as well as to offer points of comparison to my own readings. When brought together, these readings reveal common themes and narrative strategies that provide a coherent image of the biblical representation of sisters and sisterhoods.
Trace explains that her parents managed to get her and Rafa out but were killed during the collision. Rafa recalls that the Jedi failed to capture Ziro and that the accident had allowed the Hutt crime lord to escape offworld. Later, a female Jedi with green skin and dark robes had visited the Martez sisters and told them that she had to make a choice but that the Force would be with them. Rafa was upset that she and her sister had been orphaned and left homeless without any assistance from the Jedi. She explains that she has devoted her energy to building a new life for herself and her sister, not dependent on anyone else including the Jedi and criminals. Rafa blames Ahsoka for all the trouble that they have gotten into.
Rafa tells Ahsoka that she will be back for her but thinks that Ahsoka won't make it. Trace argues against leaving Ahsoka behind. However, Ahsoka uses the Force to leap over the gap, landing behind the Martez sisters, who are amazed at her athletic powers. As more guards approach, they flee down a flight of stairs which leads to a garage. The three women join forces to subdue a guard ascending a platform, crushing him against the machinery.
Meanwhile, the Gotal approaches the Pyke guards, haggling them for credits. When he sees a hologram of Ahsoka and the Martez sisters, he offers to help them in return for financial gain. While standing on a structure, Trace tells Rafa and Ahsoka that the Silver Angel is parked on one of the landing platforms at the top of the Pyke Palace. Rafa tells Trace to forget the ship and find anything that can get them offworld. However, Trace is unwilling to give up her ship.
The Pykes recapture Rafa and Trace but Ahsoka manages to flee down an alley. Meanwhile, three cloaked figures wearing Mandalorian helmets watch over the Martez sisters and Ahsoka. One of the Mandalorians thinks that it could be the Jedi she had met on Carlac. She wonders what the Jedi is doing here. The second Mandalorian thinks that her presence could complicate her mission but the first Mandalorian reminds them that they have a common enemy. She tells them to keep track of Ahsoka because she could be of use to them.
Meanwhile, Rafa and Trace Martez are brought before Fife and Marg Krim, the latter of whom corresponds with them via holoprojector. He tells the Martez sisters that they have cost him thousands of credits and that they tried to cheat him. He asks if they had considered whether they could get away with fooling a Pyke. Rafa responds that they wouldn't have tried but Fifes orders their execution. Rafa claims that she knows where the spice is.
Krim disagrees and says that their friend is still in the city. He vows to torture her and find out everything they know. Meanwhile, Ahsoka ambushes and knocks out a Pyke guard. She powers up a hover pod and interrupts the Pykes' planned execution of the Martez sisters. Trace manages to climb on, but one of the guards grabs Rafa. Ahsoka exchanges fire with the guards and comes back for a second round, picking up Trace.
Before they can escape out of the compound, they run into more Pyke sentries who use a laser cannon to shoot down their speeder. The lead Pyke says he knew that keeping the Martez sisters in the open would draw Ahsoka out. The prisoners are led back to their cell.
The Three Sisters are a popular climbing destination for hikers and mountaineers. Due to extensive erosion and rockfall, North Sister is the most dangerous climb of the three peaks, and is often informally called the "Beast of the Cascades". One of its peaks, Little Brother, can be safely scrambled. The first recorded ascent of North Sister was made in 1857 by six people, including Oregon politicians George Lemuel Woods and James McBride, according to a story published in Overland Monthly in 1870. Today, the common trail covers 11 miles (18 km) round-trip, gaining 3,165 feet (965 m) in elevation.
The village of Longbourn was only one mile from Meryton; a most convenient distance for the young ladies, who were usually tempted thither three or four times a week, to pay their duty to their aunt and to a milliner's shop just over the way. The two youngest of the family, Catherine and Lydia, were particularly frequent in these attentions; their minds were more vacant than their sisters', and when nothing better offered, a walk to Meryton was necessary to amuse their morning hours and furnish conversation for the evening; and however bare of news the country in general might be, they always contrived to learn some from their aunt. At present, indeed, they were well supplied both with news and happiness by the recent arrival of a militia regiment in the neighbourhood; it was to remain the whole winter, and Meryton was the headquarters.
She did at last extort from her father an acknowledgment that the horses were engaged. Jane was therefore obliged to go on horseback, and her mother attended her to the door with many cheerful prognostics of a bad day. Her hopes were answered; Jane had not been gone long before it rained hard. Her sisters were uneasy for her, but her mother was delighted. The rain continued the whole evening without intermission; Jane certainly could not come back.
When breakfast was over they were joined by the sisters; and Elizabeth began to like them herself, when she saw how much affection and solicitude they showed for Jane. The apothecary came, and having examined his patient, said, as might be supposed, that she had caught a violent cold, and that they must endeavour to get the better of it; advised her to return to bed, and promised her some draughts. The advice was followed readily, for the feverish symptoms increased, and her head ached acutely. Elizabeth did not quit her room for a moment; nor were the other ladies often absent; the gentlemen being out, they had, in fact, nothing to do elsewhere.
No obstetrician attended the birth of the Pleiades, 60 million years ago. As these fiercely hot suns awakened from the dazzling and dangerous gaseous nursery, the newborn stars materialized like a distant sunrise in the skies of Earth 400 light years away.
The seven sisters comes from Greek mythology. The Pleiads were the seven daughters of Atlas, a Titan who held up the sky, and the oceanid Pleione, protectress of sailing. The sisters have names: Alcyone, Asterope, Electra, Celaeno, Maia, Merope, and Taygete.
As a little girl my dad and I would sit in the dunes at the Cape and he would point out the "Stars ". I loved that time with him...the Seven Sisters was one of his favorites. My son has taken over where my dad left off...the "sisters" are just over our home in the late night sky now...thank you for your detailed article. It was wonderful...
The madwoman knows in her heart that her daughter lives. She draws maps of the path through the dangerous forest and includes them in her paper birds, which she launches from her cell window. Antain finds one and understands that it gives directions to the Witch. Now, Antain and Ethyne have a new baby boy who is slated to be the next sacrifice. Antain follows the map into the woods, determined to save his child and stop the sacrifices by killing the Witch.
When we last left Ahsoka and the Martez sisters, they were attempting to flee the Pykes after deceiving him about the spice shipment. The Pykes captured them and now they are in a prison on the planet Oba Diah. Rafa opens up about what exactly happened to their parents and the connection to the Jedi, a moment that makes Ahsoka very uncomfortable.
Another reason why there are some dangerous side effects associated with deli meats is because of the way people eat them. "Most people have deli meat with cheese on bread, which adds to the sodium content," adds Braslow. "On top of that, they often load on the condiments plus chips and a pickle on the side, which continues to increase the sodium content."
